Subject: Looking for a VANAGON mechanic in Montreal who could assess
              candidate westys
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

This newbie is looking at a couple of Vanagons in Montreal, and would like to know if anyone would be willing/able to look one or both over in person (with or without me) and provide an assessment of what is good, not good, what it would take to certify (I'm in Ontario) and optionally what a reasonable price is (or at least an assessment of what the approximate cost of repairs would be). I'm looking to know what they might need in the next 25K KM or so, between one and 2 years out.

I'm open to any offers and am aware that people offer this as a service... I'm ok with that. I do care that you know a lot more about them than I do though!!! :D Feel free to reply off list if you think that's best.

Behind Door #1 we have "Babe" who's been on the road for the past 9 years or so, they're having a baby and settling down: http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-RVs-campers-trailers-RVs-westfalia-1982-turbo-diesel-et-trans-5-vitesses-W0QQAdIdZ187161806# owner comments: i invest about 30 000 $ in the last 9 years to keep it in the better shape possible ... so i decide to part from a good friend that have been with me for many years

Behind Door #2 is an unnamed California bus who moved to Montreal 2 years ago: http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-SUVs-trucks-vans-minivans-vans-WESTFALIA-VANAGON-1984-A1-W0QQAdIdZ209329647 owner comments: only thing that you will have to keep an eye on is the #4 cylinder valve, wich clicks a LITTLE bit. It's nothing dangerous or broken, and you can ride with the West without problems. If you fix this (about 200$),wich i wouldn't do, the little click click click will stop...that's it! It's just a question of purism!!!
