where clunking CV joints 'usually' first show up , in my world, is in in-town 30 mph turns. YMMV of course.

but if your CV joints havn't been inspected and greased in say, 5 years or more, they're due. WAY due. I have seen so many dry CV joints it isn't even funny. AND I swear the stock amount of grease is not enough. I put in at least 50 % more than the whatever 'oz's' they say. I use black moly grease.

I think the inners wear out more easily from running hotter by the trans and engine. but really... sad to see dry CV joints because if anyone ever kept them lubed actually... original german CV joints will last indefenitely. They can even stand some play .....but they need grease , and they don't get enough grease to start with I don't think... and grease seems to just dry out after a long time.

frustarting to see parts where out when it's so unneccessary. Grease isn't expensive. then neither are el cheapo rebuilt axles, but there is no way they can be as well made as the original axles with good german CV joints ..heck, one new Lobro CV joint costs as much as an el cheapo rebuilt axle, but that's what I use, good german made, OE style Lobro CV joints .. and if you take care of them .... ( you can even inject grease under the boot every few years if you want ) ....they will outlast everything else on the van.
