Jay,

Are you referring to a 2wd or Syncro? Syncro driveshafts (the one that goes front to back) ping or clunk as you pull away. There are various remedies but it doesn't really hurt anything in my experience.

Of course, if it's 2wd it can be a bunch of things. Loose torque converter maybe? Had one situation which turned out to be a broken caliper bolt. Broken throw out bearing fork?

If you haven't already, it is best to specify year, model, and drivetrain when asking these sort of questions.
