If you mean the gauge rises when you're sitting in traffic -- that may be more or less normal IMO. There's a difference between getting hot and overheating.

My switch tested okay but (perhaps like you) I did not like seeing the gauge go up that much as I waited for the fan to kick on -- I added a manual switch so I could trigger it when I could plainly see I was going to be stuck in traffic awhile or was about to drive up a 9000' mountain for the next half-hour in summer heat.

I used a VW dash switch -- I think it was meant for driving lights -- that had 2 positions so I could override with either low fan or high fan.

Probably unnecessary but made me feel cooler (literally).
