Don,

There is nothing wrong with writing about modifications to an inline-4 for use in a Vanagon. Although you might find more receptive audience at:

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Vanagon-VAG-EngConv/

I have an ABA with a 1.8 head in my 88 2wd Doka. Uses a Techtonics adapter to hold the distributor. Mounting at 15 degrees as deck height is not an issue for Dokas. Had a 1.8 CIS in my old 82 Diesel and also a Weber carbureted 1.8 in a RHD Singlecab mounted at 50 degrees with stock diesel hardware.

Anyway, feel free to tell us about your modifications to make the engine more suitable for your Vanagon.

MODerately yours,

BenT
