I don't think we are saying it cannot be done. We just need to clarify
how it can be done legally. Passing it off as a US vehicle through
some yokel in some smalltown DMV might work but That does not clear
potential legal issues down the line. For recent imports, I'll bet it
takes be a couple of minutes to figure out how the vehicle entered the
country once I have the VIN. DMV can so it even faster.
Like taxes, they say 'avoidance' is legal. 'Evasion' can get you into
Alcatraz (or whatever they call Federal Pens these days).

Why try to screw around with that State's DMV. It only takes a few
hundred dollars to register that Eurovan the legal way. No need to
keep looking over your shoulder.

I was writing figuratively. California policy is friendly to
alternative fuels. Diesel's can burn common renewable fuels. You might
recall a posting I made here a couple of week's ago. California now
requires verification that you still have a diesel in your vehicle
every two years unless your vehicle is 1985 and older. Besides that,
they also test IIRC 1998 to present. They are doing a sniff test to
create a test sampling. No doubt bienniel inspections for diesels are
on their way in California.

You know who should know better. If you know who knows enough to make
such a you know what comment, you know who should know well enough to
get a handle on his you know what.
You know who just likes to yank the Mod out of me.
