RE: Propane bleeder and gloves
I'll second the suggestion for having a glove available when filling the
propane tank. But not just any glove. Several years ago I was assisting the
attendant getting the bleeder closed. He was convinced it was a left hand
thread and wouldn't listen to me. I grabbed a leather work glove I had
handy in the van and closed the bleeder myself. And got a good patch of
frostbite on both my thumb and first finger. Nasty frozen white patches
that hurt like hell when they thawed out. Big deep blisters that eventually
pealed away with no permanent damage. The propane had gone right through
the leather almost like it wasn't there. I now carry a heavy rubberized
glove for the same thing. Only had to use it once since but it worked fine,
no more freezer burn. So the right kind of glove is essential.
BTW, a hint for maybe getting better service from the propane attendant that
is peeved because he has to get down on his knees to fill the Westy tank. A
good friend of mine, an elderly woman that spends a lot of time in her
Westy, carries a rubber kneeling pad that she pulls out and puts down for
the attendant. They appreciate it very much.
