A dehumidifier is just an air conditioner set up to catch the water instead of spray it out the back (I'm blurring the details a bit). But any air conditioner is a dehumidifier by nature. Nowadays regular window units use the condenser fan to pick up the collected water and hurl it out the back in a fine mist which also helps efficiency -- they only drip under severely humid conditions. When I was a wee lad all that water simply ran out a little drain onto the ground. Of course when I was a wee lad various commercial establishments had signs outside covered with icicles saying "Air Conditioned" -- and they kept those places cold enough that you by golly knew you were being air conditioned, yes sir. The icicles were fair warning.

Yours, David
