The reason for avoiding connecting the hydraulic lines is that I have a junkyard power steering pump that I suspect has serious problems. I am planning a Zetec conversion soon, and want to avoid repairing parts that will not be used with the new engine.

Nobody has come forth to say that they have done this without damage. I guess I will flush the hydraulic lines and connect them to the rack. The power steering pump belt is removed and will stay that way for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the input.

I have a leaking PS rack that you can have for the cost of the core ($125) plus shipping from ZIP 92054.
