Mr. Squirrel, I find your write-up moderately interesting { :-) . Thanks for posting it. Glad you got out of the mud ok. I would have enjoyed your trip myself, except for the mud part.

The flowering shrub looks like a snowbell (_Styrax_ sp.), but the plants are not native in the NW. Maybe it was at an old house place or something? Here is a photo of the Texas Snowbell:

Of course, it could be something else altogether. Identifying plants from a photo is not an exact science!
