RE: What's 'Camping'? I was going to stay out of this thread but it keeps drawing me back. I've been 'motel camping', I've been 'car camping' and I've 'camped under the stars'. And now I 'camp' in my Westfalia. Before I was old enough to drink (legally) I'd hiked a bunch of miles in the So Cal coastal hills with a 50 pound load (and heavier) and slept 'under the stars' in weather that was in the 30's at midnight and the 90's by noon the next day. I'd slept outside with nothing but a mummy bag at 10 below in the Sierras in the middle of February. I'd lived in a climate that the temps and humidity were both 80 to 90 24 hours a day and slept in a small tent there (when the Typhoons didn't keep me in a cement building.) And I'd packed and slept under triple canopy jungle so thick you had to yell to be heard 20 yards away (and if you want to talk about big bugs and other critters visiting join me around the campfire some night). I think I can say I've BTDT. And now, a few years later (I'll be 71 in a couple of weeks) I'm perfectly content to travel by sitting in the drivers seat and park, pop the top, and 'camp' where I damn well please. As Mark stated so well we are a diverse group with diverse wants, needs, tastes, limitations and expectations. And budgets. Many of us 'camp' the way we want when and where we want and to define 'camping' for the people on this list is like trying to define how high is up. Alright, off my Soap Box and donning the Nomex....
