Really sad to hear this. Reminds me of a friend many years ago who died on the freeway. He was changing a tire on the driver's side of his car while on the shoulder. A car came by and struck him. Never, ever change a driver's side tire on the road unless the vehicle is way off the road beyond the shoulder. Better to get a tow, do anything but change a tire while the van is on the shoulder. Drivers are actually attracted to the car on the side of the road. I think I heard once that people will naturally let their cars drift towards the car on the shoulder. It is some kind of human effect, their eyes are drawn to the object and the car naturally follows right to it. I think they teach motorcycle drivers that way. If you want to turn left, look to the left and the cycle will follow.
