Data...
I've been tracking for the past 3 months the various fuel suppliers/octanes/ethanol blends that I put in my 88 Westy full camper. Here's some info.. I've got Shell 87 in the tank now and should have an initial read of that one in a week or two. :)
Date Fuel Supplier Octane Miles In Trip Gallons Miles/Gallon 4/1/2010 Unknown Unknown 213,771 225.3 14.059 16.0253 4/26/2010 Chevron 87 214,003 231.9 13.861 16.7304 5/2/2010 Union 76 87 214,230 227.3 12.855 17.6818 5/23/2010 Chevron 87 214,452 222.0 12.630 17.5772 5/29/2010 Chevron 87 214,640 187.2 10.526 17.7845 6/10/2010 Chevron 87 214,858 218.5 12.803 17.0663 6/11/2010 Union 76 87 215,053 194.6 10.074 19.3171 6/12/2010 Conoco 87 E10 215,234 180.6 9.508 18.9945 6/13/2010 Conoco 87 215,441 207.2 10.454 19.8202 6/14/2010 Chevron 87 215,639 197.9 10.671 18.5456
And the summary table:
Row Labels Average of Miles/Gallon Chevron 17.54080575 87 17.54080575 Union 76 18.49944483 87 18.49944483 Unknown 16.02532186 Unknown 16.02532186 Conoco 19.40734773 87 19.82016453 87 E10 18.99453092
Now, granted, fuel economy is one indicator of "runs best", but Conoco 87 is clearly in the lead for our Westy.
Arco - I refuse to go anywhere near that stuff. On our Prius, we usually average around 48-50.. I filled up Arco in it one time, and economy dropped to 42-44 for the next three tanks of gas.. Avoiding that stuff like the plague.

Ready.... GO! (Running away with a smerk on my face)
-Craig '85GL turned WESTY BOSTIG in the back (The truth is, I can run any gasoline or ethanol product just fine. I'm now indifferent. I am however somewhat anti BP for the last 50 or so days...)
