RE Gremin: I did about $400 damage to a Gremlin with my behind back in 74. I commuted to work on a Gitane Tour de France with sewup tires, a pretty fast bike for its day. I was coming down a steep hill past some apartments on the way to work when a well-known local TV reporter pulled out, looking for cars but not for me. I squeezed on brakes hard, being unable to avoid him completely, and the bike slid out from under me. My feet were still in the straps when my butt clipped the back end of the little Gremlin, whose hatchback would not close because of the big dent in the rear "C" pillar I guess it was.

$400 was a lot of money back then. The damage to my bike and two Wolber Rainbow rims was almost as much as his car. I was all skinned up but nothing was broken.

And that was my only encounter with a Gremlin.
