I know. they just stick the probe in the tail pipe. in many areas. that's what they do in Oregon where I am anyway ..

I drove a Subaru-vanagon into the smog check station once upon a time... ... was a little nervous because it wasn't my car, doing a favor for the owner who was in Hawaii... and it didn't have a stock engine .. I drove in, I roll down the window and the guy says '2,500 rpm.' I do that. then he comes to the window again and says 'let it idle'. then the next time he comes to my driver's door window he says " $ 15 " .. that was 'it' !! lol. very nice low emissions too. I got the printout.

No, I sure do not expect that smog techs will go fiddling with undoing the Idle Stabilizer on 1.9 waterboxers usually these days. Just quoting what the spec sticker says.

and the old grumpy german guy that used to work there ... I drove an SVX Vanagon in there for a 'volunteer test' ...just a free sniff... he grumbles....'that is not a VW engine !!' . but he sniffed it and it was super fine and 100 % legal. lol.

what fun ! Scott ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karl Wolz" <wolzphoto@Q.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, June 18, 2010 2:15 PM Subject: Re: Last gasp: low compression exhaust valve can't pass smog
