the wheel centers on that lip in the middle of the flange. You want to keep that lip there.

if milling or boring out alloy wheels, the bore doesn't have to be enlarged the whole way through of course...just 3/8 of an inch depth or so. I'm real picky about safety, and doing that to an alloy wheel does not seem very risky or weak to me.
