wow.. haven't thought of 'Birdhouse Bar out Turnagain Arm ' in a while. Been there. Went to Alaska on the Green Tourtoise in 1980 and 81.

them's was the days all right. How much was gas back then ? ... don't even rememer .. Might have been about 90 cents a gallon.

I do remember that in about 1994 diesel was $ 1.48 per gallon, like in the western US ............and with an extra tank on board, my 5 speed 1.9 TD vanagon went 600 miles on one load of fuel several times.. and refilled for 28 bucks ! after 600 miles ..not bad.

- not any more though. I sure hope the oil disaster will get humans to see that 'economic development' is a big sin, and might kill us ultimately. We don't need tons and tons of new toys and cars and .....oh.......say.....oversize barbeques. and 'all that' . Or giant pick-up trucks. We don't need that stuff, and 'the system' is set up stupidly and backwards, becuse right now , if they don't make and sell tons and tons of toys and giant pick-up trucks.....people don't get food and housing. That's backwards.

Environmantal concerns and economic goals are in direct oppostion to each other ...so very, very obvious to me. I don't think 'they' get it though. I hope 'they' do before it's too late, if it's not already, not that I am a pessimist or doomsday person , but something has gotta give one of these days, or we're gonna perish as a species...which actually ...would be quite good for the planet. Maybe that's the plan !

Scott
