I use Mobil Vactra No. 2 Way Oil on the bed of my lathe (which is what it's meant for). One of its major attributes is to greatly reduce "stick-slip" friction so you can move the lathe carriage smoothly from rest even under considerable cutting pressure. I haven't tried your screwdriver test on it but I bet it would behave similarly.

I don't use it on the spindle and other rotating parts of the lathe, and I don't put it in engines.
