I don't believe the little screw on bottom is technically a trap, but clearly something is needed there (a fitting IOW)to route a hose properly to the drain. Yes, I had thought about putting some elbows into the line, and in fact an elbow attached to the floor of the van (like the one in the fresh water tank top) makes a lot of sense to me. That way you could actually route the hose underneath the shelf and get the benefit of the whole shelf, although putting items around the hose has never really been a major obstacle for me. I guess if you have larger items it may be a problem, but I don't store pots and pans in the sink cabinet, mostly can goods, TP, soap, etc. Admittedly, this is one area that's not too hard to improve.

The point of my post was about the length of the hose from BD, and not so much about the design of the P-trap, but yes, I whole heartedly agree there's ways to improve it!

  One more thing Troy,you really don't need a trap on the westy as you don't have to worry about sewer fumes!! I found running a section of straight rubber hose was the cheapest and I was able to make more room under the sink. I also used a an elbow or two to keep it tight against the wall. We really just brush our teeth in the sink so I runs right down no problems.

The hose when fully stretched, barely, and I mean barely goes straight down to the exit port.
