Pete,
I'm not sure what Extreme Tape is but Rescue Tape is rated over 500° F so it
should work. There isn't enough room around the base of the push rod tube to
get a good stretch and wrap.
I did get to use some though. While I was under there I saw a rust bubble on
the underside of the metal pipe that goes from the T-Stat to the water pump.
Cleaned and wrapped, it should be good till I get into coolant hose work
this summer.
