Here's one under $5000, looks good, but an 83, and it has a "sold" engine / transmission.

I think they meant "Solid"!!! Only 115k miles.

You could always do a ztec conversion!!

Good luck finding the "perfect" Westy!!!

In December of 2008 I sold my '84 Westy (purchased from original owners grand daughter for $1,200.00 w/ a seized motor) Out of 9 buses I've owned this was by far the best. It had the gas heater. I sold it on Ebay, and I was so filled with regret the day the buyer flew in to pick it up I almost sabotaged the engine and was going pay the buyers airfare back home. But I didn't, and I stood there wondering what the hell had I done as I watched him drive off. I swore I was never going to buy another Vanagon again. For months after that I kept meaning to unsubscribe from the list, but I just couldn't.Two week later I bought a used 1995 Chevy Winnebago camper. I sold that and bought a 1996 AWD Safari. Just an hour ago the buyer of the Safari drove off. I didn't even watch it go. Sure, it was a good van, probably run a bazillion miles with no troubles. But it wasn't a Vanagon. I'm miserable when I own a Vanagon, more miserable when I don't. Soooooo, now I am in the market for another Vanagon, a Westy, pretty much from '84 up. No diesels. I'm in N. Virginia, about 50 miles west of Washington DC, and thanks to Craigslist and The Samba, I pretty much know whats for sale within 300 miles of me, so far I haven't seen anything that really interests me. My budget is about $5,000.00. <SIGH> I can't believe I am going to buy another one! Jeff
