Confusing. By, ".... the table can stay up .... " exactly what do you mean? When I take the bed down, I have put the table up -- that is, turned it so that it is over the cabinet and next to the window, in its traveling position. And yes, I use it as a receptacle for things I might need in the night. If the table were turned into its open position, as for using it as an eating platform, it would definitely be in my way if I needed to get up in the night. Likely, I'd kill myself falling over it trying to get out to pee.
