hi Jeff, Congrats !

on the fridge ..yes ....85 Wolfsburg Weekenders have a 12 volt fridge right behind the passenger's front seat. it's secured to the floor with thumb screws actually.. built to be able to be taken out without tools. Plugs into a cig lighter socket, mine had one by the passenger's seat just for plugging in the fridge. On a hot day it wouldn't do much. I forget, but 'maybe' it had a 110AC mode and cord too.

paint code can up below the fuse box ...up under there, white sticker on metal. or .....under the driver's seat , in that cubby there. I have it written down somewhere too.

I'm thinking it's your thermostat not doing what it should do, re your cold running temp on the gauge. Pretty common failure mode on waterboxer t-stats ... they don't keep the engine up to temp. New good german t-stat is the real repair. I get the warmer 87 C one.

Infra temp gun is the easy way to see what the real temp of the engine is. Gotta have one... totally worth what they cost, which isn't much. Just point at the engine here and there ... if you're seeing 180 or so, it's running up to temp. If you see say 150, it's not, and that wastes fuel, wears the engine more ,etc.

it is a magic color .. catch it in sunset light sometime...I have a picture of mine in those conditions where she looks purplish-brown, or maybe it was light rain and just the right light ..but purple-brown even.

Like a new family member ! what fun. Scott www.turbovans.com

Well. right or wrong, its mine now. Good news is it made it 50+ miles home without any issues. About 19 miles into the drive home, the temp gauge finally rose to just below the LED. It stayed there for about 30 seconds then it dropped all the way down to the bottom where it stayed the rest of the way home. I just took it out to the store and it didn't budge from the bottom. Deja vu-my last '84 did this very same thing, and it wasn't the resistor, the gauge, sending unit, etc. I never did figure out what it was. Tomorrow I start replacing vacuum lines, cleaning grounds, etc.Two questions: did weekenders come with a big ugly a** Dometic fridge that bolted to the floor behind the passenger seat? It looks like a big window unit air conditioner and it's gonna be gone, I hate it. Seller said it doesn't work anyway. Also, I know I can find this info easily enough, but I'm sure someone knows it off the top of their head: '85 Wolfsburg Edition Weekender whats the paint name/code? It's kind of a silvery brown (which believe it or not my wife likes!) TIA, Jeff

Jeff Stewart
