Dear Peter, The pressure bottle must hold pressure or the system will not work correctly.

*ANY* warning light indication on a Vanagon is an issue of STOP RIGHT NOW and proceed no further without understanding the nature of the problem. I don't mean in five miles, or a quarter of a mile, I mean NOW. The most important reason for this is that the engine is aluminum, and that the coolant pump is driven by the alternator belt.
