Sorry, darn iPhone screen was too touchy and sent message prematurely.

Anyway, officer said the permanently installed canopy on the Syncro really should have side windows before they can call it a 'modified pick-up' or camper. It has a window in the back and accepted by DMV before as a camper -- no weight fees. Now my 2wd Doka has a canvas canopy. He took one look at that and pronounced commercial. Says there is no way they'll let that one slip by even if I installed a real camper interior. Has something to do with the canopy not being considered a 'permanent' modification.

Ironically, the Vindic canopy is easier to remove than the canvas canopy for temporarily turning the Doka back to use as a truck. The whole reason for these California DMV rules is determine if your vehicle can be used for carrying cargo and be subject to weight fees.
