Hi Mike,

The eCode lenses are the bees knees, I would definitely go for a set of Bosch lenses from Bus Depot at that price point. I am currently running Hella 55/100W H4's in my '85 Westfalia and Hella 80/100W H4's in my '87 Wolfsburg. Amazon.com does free shipping on orders over $25, so I usually go with them to avoid paying 8-10 bucks to send out a few bulbs (assuming I need some other stuff that will bring my total to $25).

80/100W http://www.amazon.com/Hella-HLA-H83140171-Halogen-Bulb-Road/dp/B000COBLKW/re f=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1277210593&sr=1-2

As long as your new lenses are properly aimed you won't blind anyone and should not get flashed by oncoming traffic. As you point out, aside from being super lame, the blue (pseudo xenon) bulbs actually detract from your night vision (I think there is some info on this on Daniel Stern's site about this).

For easy to find and cheap to obtain H4 bulbs, I would go with the regular white halogens from Hella. Since the H4 bulbs are so small and easy to stow away, I recommend getting a spare or two to keep in the glovebox.

For anyone else looking to do the headlight relay install, I have some kits listed on thesamba.com for all model years, in stock and ready to ship.

Good luck, Jay Brown '85 Zetec Westfalia '87 Zetec Wolfsburg

The existing lamps are sealed beam* size type 2D1 lenses with halogen bulbs behind them. I'm wondering if something like Bus Depot's Euro H4 headlights** would be worth getting. At $44 a pair they seem a deal.
