The bear that took out my backpack was just as clever as the Yosemite bears,
although he lived near a remote forestry campsite out of Leavenworth, WA.
All our 'food' was in a sealed container up in a tree. The pack, with
'nothing' in it was just leaning against the picnic table. Once Herr Bear
opened up the pack with a single swipe that took off the whole front, he
ignored everything (clothes and gear) and neatly opened up only those sealed
aluminum foil so-called 'scentless' packages of freeze-dried crap that the
outdoors stores used to sell as 'food'. They're a lot smarter than we think.

Lastly, I think we can all benefit from the advice in the last paragraph of
the attached campground sign from Fort Steele, BC.
