The bottom of this page tells how to decide which of the three stock tire sizes was spec'd for your Vanagon: http://www.vanagon.com/syncros/syncro16/index.htm. I understand as you do, Loren, that only vehicles equipped with alloys came with with 205/70R14, and those vehicles are also equipped with a larger spare tire cover.
