Hi,
Just a quick update, we had to postpone our vacation for a few days..
The slave cylinder was leaking but was not the problem... it was finally the pilot bearing that was completely gone.
cheers,
pierre

The clutch feels fine, right? Hydraulic problems make the pedal feel different. I think that your pilot bearing went and so now the transmission input shaft can't rotate independently of the engine flywheel. Even though the clutch can disengage just fine, it doesn't matter, because the input shaft is stuck in the flywheel. So the syncromeshes won't let you shift with the engine going, because the input shaft can't be stopped. Why do I think this? because the same thing happened to me a month ago.

In fact, as you said it's more like i can't get the shift lever to move into the gear when the engine is running.
I was able to get back in first by stopping the car, put the shift in 1st and start back the engine and i manage to get home.
