there are no long hoses from front to back,
unless you mean heater hoses. ...those go the full length.

the main coolant hoses connect to metal pipes that go front to back.
those can rot out for sure ..

'usually' the most wear, stress, and corrosion, or heat-aging occurs closest
to the engine ..
where things run hotter.
like if heater hoses are tired.....rather than fight getting them over the
fuel tank, or removing gas tank, probably could do very well just replacing
the rear half of them.

and actually ...if I'm repairing metal main coolant pipes ..I usually cut
them in the middle just aft of the fuel tank, and join two sections..that
way you can always work on and repair the rear half ..
and leave the front portion in place, not mess with the gas tank etc.

and sometimes people have put in main coolant hoses the whole way, to
replace the metal coolant pipes.

I know you have a 1.9 wbxr engine, but forget the year.
vanagons have metal main coolant pipes to roughly mid 85, then they go to
plastic pipes which can have their own problems.

Also, when Alex was under the van he noticed one of the long coolant hoses
from front to back was almost toast.  Wasn't there some replacement for
these where you don't have to remove the gas tank?
