Most shippers are just brokers. watch out for that business too .. they're a little shady/sloppy sometimes.

it would be good to get the van to a safe place seems to me. I would up the efforts to protect yourself. I'm sure you don't want to seem a nag or doubting of the seller.. but it sure would be nice to see a notorized letter from him stating that he is selling the van to you with VIN blah blah blah.

as you can see everyone is nervous about this deal. It's got *all* the hallmarks of a scam deal, a far too low price, excuses why it's that way, etc. .

I can understand being willing to risk that low a sum for what could possibly be a great van. the biggest two worisome details to me are .. more than two acutally .. but .....the price is way low. There simply is no reason why anyone would sell a rare at least 10,000 dollar sunroof syncro vanagon for 1/3 that price, unless they don't know what they have at all... which if the seller is samba-savvy ...he knows what it's worth.

and the bad reputation of the seller...

I would sure try to get the van to safe hands real fast. There are many vanagon community members in the Portland area that might be willing to park it for you until you can arrange shipping.

right now ....the guy could do whatever, pull out the engine and put in a much crappier engine .. and when you get the van back east .....all he has to say is 'it was fine when it left here' .. etc.

nobody wants to ruin your fun. heck ! I have been advsed this way myself in the past..if you can cacel the sale, you should, but I know you'd really regret that , so I guess you have to for forward on the chance that you can get a rare sunroof syncro.

anyway ....'time constaints' are a clasic scam tool. I was gonna say hire someone out here to go look at it for you ... lots of Portland vanagon community members would be glad to go check out the van for you. .. but that's past now anyway.

See if you can get it into safe hands as a first step is what I suggest.

then get the shipping happening. and when a 'shipper' gives you a 'quote' ...often they are just a broker, and that's a just a bid they post, and hope some driver picks up the job. When they say $ 150 is a 'deposit' ...it's not, it's their fee. ..they just don't tell you that.

Some people get *turned on* deceiving and ripping people off. They *get off* on it. Pathological even.

anyway ....stay in touch with the list, we wanna see it work out for you. that thing about 'slam me on thesamba' ........ that's a good one !

trying to stop here.....there's a guy that sells diesel parts online .. I knew things were not *really* as presented ..or quality was low .etc.. etc.. I just googled his name.. in one minute I'm seeing 'do not buy from this guy' ... so there's somebody that's been 'revealed' and he's still selling stuff left and right as far as I know.

fingers crossed. Scott www.turbovans.com
