I'll be darn.. the Bentley that claims to cover from 1980 to 89 only shows the 87ish type AC .... and for sure, 84 and 85 non-westy's have an AC that's above the front seats , with controls up by the rear view mirror, two plastic sections joined by a plastic tube .

in the 1980 to 1985 issue of Bentley .. they don't even mention AC , like a whole section with pictures apparently, but on page 97.68 there's a good wiring diagram. Doesn't tell much where the components are though, in the van.

This AC is very common in 84 and 85 waterboxers vanagons that I see. and I've seen lots of 84's with this AC and no power streering. oh ...86 uses it too, in non-westy's. Got several sets of used AC parts of this type.
