Reactions?

I really don't much notice what other peoples reactions are like when I drive my Vanagon. Sometimes if or when someone speaks directly to me about Vanagons or points or waves...sure..I take the compliment (almost always that) but I don't drive a Vanagon to cause any reaction..I drive one because it's the right vehicle for me right now. There just isn't another vehicle that would work as well for what I do with mine...I looked. I chose to do the Vanagon...for now.

The other vehicles that are 'close' all have something that makes them unsuitable, or 'less suited' to what I want and need ....Too big and high...the Sprinter vans. Too low, little ground clearance...the generic minivans. Too small, the Toyota 4x4 vans of old. Poor gas mileage, the full size vans from US makers..The only ones that are 'close' aren't importable into the US..some of the diesel vans in Europe and Asia seem more appropriate, but I ain't gonna take on the expense and the hassel of getting one of those to the States to drive when I can do a great vanagon for around $5000 (that is what I estimate I have in my Inline four VW motored 84 semi Westie, after I've done all the R&R to make run like a new vehicle.)

I don't care much what others think about what vehicle I am driving...as long as they leave us alone. I look around at traffic when I visit the city and think about all the other drivers with their car payments and parking passes, their fuming in gridlock often..and it sometimes hits me that I too could do that.....Nah!
