I did 2 things. One is probably not a safe one. 1) found a plastic orange battery protector. It goes over the terminal allowing the wires to go under the plastic. Something like its picture here: http://www.nyautocare.com/shops/1/car-battery.jpg 2) I put cardboard around it. Mostly as a winter cover. When I fold the pieces over it covers the terminals. I would be most concern with the Positive side +.
