Whew. And here I was thinking I was the only one who overthought things! That cover is held on with four machine screws. Long ones, too. They'd have to back out a considerable distance before letting go. I can't think of any way that the cover could come loose. Find a collectible copy of Playboy, maybe from the '80s, put it in a archival-quality airtight plastic bag, and lay it on the battery.
