Numerous A/C threads on the Samba address this and the substance of choice seems to be the stuff used to purge truck air brake systems, which one guy says is straight Methanol (wood alcohol). This should be readily available by the gallon and pretty cheap at HoDepot or the like. Pour it in a section of hose or a component and chase with compressed air to clean out the accumulated "snot," as they call it. You may want to search for some of those threads for verification. I'm about to resurrect a long dead A/C system on my daily driver, and - since the lines have been open and not connected to a compressor (removed long ago) the system needs a major flush. What is recommended for a system flush, and what will work without costing an arm and a leg. One repair station said the flush stuff is really expensive, so just wondering.
