I agree with Jake, a good connection is a good connection :) One other idea is to take this as an opportunity to add an aux. fuse box right by the alternator, like this one http:// shufti.wordpress.com/2010/04/06/aux-fuse-panel/ It might be more bother than you want to go through, finding one and figuring out how to mount etc., but it would give you fuse protected output pretty well right from the alternator.
