Earlier (Bus) versions of this hubcap were just slightly shallower than later Bus/Vanagon ones (which carried a 251 part number). Maybe the one you have is for a Bus and therefore just a hair too shallow. Aftermarket ones can be either way, although most are of the later style that will fit both.
