Mine is like that. Parking brake works fine.

Looks odd I know, but AFAIK, normal. IIRC, there is a flat portion at bar that is at right angles to cable from front, and cable is in line with body....

My understanding is that if rear brakes are in good shape, and all is set up right, they should self adjust and parking brake should stay in adjustment. One adjusts the parking brake to correctly operating and setup rear brakes. I don't know what really worn shoes do to this. So far, my rear brakes work like that.
