by triple knobs do you mean front and rear locking diffs,
plus decoupler ?

if so, did you try it with decoupler engaged so there is drive to the front
?

if it was say, a rear CV joint that became loose.....if in 2WD with unlocked
rear diff it would act like that, no drive to anywhere.
if in AWD and it was a rear CV that got loose, it would still drive in the
front.

so did you try it in AWD if you have a decoupler ?
if in 2WD could just be a rear CV,
if in AWD ..does sound like internal to the trans doesn't it ?
