Hi Alistair,

I would guess that VW left the OXS light out of the design because the speedo cable that drives it operates much differently than it does on the 2WD vanagons. I'm told that the synchro speedo takes its input from the front differential and the cable spins at a much lower speed than the 2WD version.

Also, with the syncro drivetrain being a bit more maintenance intensive I expect that VW figured the dealer would be seeing them more often anyway and the warning light wouldn't be required to create a service call.
