The first time I lost the hubcap I thought maybe I just didn't get it on right, but it had been there for over 100 miles... I thought the dust cap was a little big when I put the second one on but tried it. It was less than 10 miles later that I saw it take off cross the lane, across a field and stop at a fence, I went back and got it, you could see the marks on the inside. I had not thought about that wheel being different ... I have some new stock wheels now and just went and tested the 'new' wheel. I put a touch of grease on the speedo cable tip and the hubcap, the hubcap had the grease tell. When I picked up the wheels and tires the lady gave me some extra part that were left over from her '84, that included a set of chrome hubcaps. One of them came pre-dented right in the middle, from her left front I'll bet.

With any luck the photos will show up here, the pre-dented cap and the grease tell. http://s197.photobucket.com/albums/aa190/becida/84%20Hubcap/

Like Jim Morgan suggested I'll have to use the 'fixed' the hubcap until I can find a cleaner way to dent the cap out.
