Thanks for the couple of replies I got. Fluid under the dash was checked and topped up as part of this process. I even left instrument cluster cover off and applied brakes - little to no change in the fluid level, I also revved the engine to 3000 RPM - fluid remains high but brake light starts to flicker on - so lack of brake fluid is ruled out I believe. I will check the switch under the handbrake - I would be surprised if that was it - if it was an electical switch I would think it would fail on or off, not flicker, but stranger things will happen - will check.

Thanks again

Brett

My master brake warning light on the left side of the dash has started coming on....sometimes......Im not sure how long its been doing it - I rarely drive the car at night, but I did the other day and noticed it - now that I know its there I can see it in the day, but its probably been going on for a while during daytime driving without me noticing. It flickers on only when the engine is running above 3000rpm. As soon as I brake or put the clutch in the RPM goes below 3000 the light instantly goes off. It is not speed related - I can do it at idle. The more I am above 3000rpm the stronger it comes on. I have checked the fluid - it was a bit low, I topped it up but no change. Also adjusted the parking brake for correct operation. Im not sure if this is a standard vanagon thing or something the PO monkeyed with during the 2.2 install. > > Any ideas? > > ThanksBrettGreater Vancouver, BC. > > > > ------------------------------ > > Date: Sun, 18 Jul 2010 22:25:47 -0500 > From: John Rodgers <inua@CHARTER.NET> > Subject: Re: master brake light misbehaving > > Sorry about that.
