Jeff, It's not too difficult. What you need to do is to keep on the lookout for a donor vehicle -- an 80 - 82 aircooled that has serious mechanical problems but has a good poptop and camper equipment too if you want that. You'll need to buy new seals, canvas, fabric/vinyl paint if you want it look really nice and struts if you want to make it very easy to raise and lower. Figure about $500 or the donor van and $600 to $800 for replacement parts. A weekend to remove and clean the old top and luggage rack. Another weekend to sand and paint them and put on the seals. Another weekend or two to cut a hole and install the poptop and luggage rack. If you ever want to go down this road I'll send you some pics and we can talk on the phone. Werner |
