The resistance test in the Bentley is not very satisfying.
A much better test is to connect a voltage source like a 9V battery
to the ends of the potentiometer (which would be +12v and ground when
it is in the van), and then monitor the voltage at the slider terminal
while moving the vane very slowly. The voltage should change smoothly
and continuously with no "drop outs".
An even better test (which I'll try someday) would be to do all this
while the AFM is subjected to the type of vibration it would feel on a
running engine.
