Yes, that and it's been really busy here: Thursday saw Mr Squirrel purchasing his very own brand new little red kayak and the tackle required to lash it atop the Westralia then meeting a friend at a local brewpub for a couple pints, then riding his bike to the park to sit with Mrs Squirrel and friends for a free concert (Paula Cole, interesting artist); yesterday started early as it was Mrs Squirrel's birthday and she wanted to play hooky from work so we drove Mellow Yellow into the mountains to park along the road to watch the Mens and Womens professional riders race for King of the Mountain points at a summit in the Cascades Cycling Classic, then drove over to Elk Lake to putt about in kayaks, then back to town to catch "Inception" at a local theater, then dinner and a couple more beers at one of our finer pubs where some visiting amateur cyclists from Truckee, Cali., asked if Bend is like this every summer and we said "yeah . . . yeah it is!", followed by watching the penultimate stage of the Tour de France; and today Mr Squirrel will be taking a four-hour Basic Kayaking course (as Mr Squirrel has little useful prior boating knowledge) followed by a trip downtown to watch the amazingly fast pro riders ride the criterium stage, then we're going to see Los Lonely Boys play a concert at an outdoor venue; a-and since tomorrow is projected to be about 98F (37C) we will float down the Deschutes river then bring our picnic baskets and blanket to the Les Schwab amphitheater to another free concert (Great American Taxi, whoever they are), where children will romp and play, adults will sit and chat, adolescents will do whatever mysterious things that adolescents do and a good time will be had by all.

That said, the sight of a small furry animal having been killed and the corpse wrapped around a bottle of beer (for the "yuk, yuk," factor, no doubt) made Mr Squirrel's stomach lurch. How about a little head's up next time?
