Subject: Another Pop Top Warning
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi all.

Saw David B's post and was reminded of my pop top near miss failure.

I don't know what MY's this applies to. Mine is an '81 Canadian model.

While breaking camp one day on my last trip, on the last 1/5 of lowering the top, the cable on the passenger side pop top joint, snapped. (part in question as per this pic of Davids: http://tinyurl.com/2dgnad5 ). On that last 1/5 of lid travel, it came down QUICK. This could potentially bang the crap out of ones head, trap a finger etc. Thankfully all crap still presently resides in my cranium and all digits present. Still. It coulda hurt.

My understanding is that there's a spring inside this part. It, along with cable, is an assist. I assume there's one on each side. Don't know the fix, haven't taken time to inspect for what warning signs to look for. The top worked ok but was a little awkward to hold up while pulling canvas in and was harder to lift up.

Just a heads up (har har).

Neil.
