If you're ok with exploded diagrams, 40.2 may help. Bentley calls the A-arm an upper control arm, and the track rod a strut bar. The two control arms (upper and lower) mount the steering and hub assembly by way of the upper and lower ball joints; their purpose is to hold the hub etc vertical while it travels up and down, but at the same time allow it to be rotated for steering. The track rod keeps the entire assembly from flopping backward, and is adjustable to control the caster, which is the amount that the hub leads or trails the upper mount.
