OK, gang - I don't want to start a debate here so please keep it civil :) I am fairly sure I have a leak from the rear main seal (1.9). Obviously the real fix is replacing the seal - but that's not going to happen any time soon. So I purchased some of the Bars Leak Rear Main Seal treatment stuff - calims to work similar to the Subie coolant conditioner by "swelling" the seal. So knowing the "Both sides of the story" controversy about Bars Leak radiator stop leak stuff - I am wondering two things: 1) Does anyone have any experience with this stuff? 2) Is there any reason I should just stay away from it? A little detail. The engine doesn't leak too much day to day - but it does leak significantly more right after a long trip (200-300 miles) or after hauling a load (loaded it up with some stuff a few weeks back - in hind sight probably too much - and she leaked a bit after that). When I say leaks more I mean a spot maybe 2" in diameter (under daily use maybe the size of a dime but not everyday). -- Thanks, Jeff '85 GL (Gertie) '90 Carat (Grover - the noble parts donor) '86 (We call this one Scrap) '78 Bus (Melissa) Patty's Bus |
