How about taking it out and renewing the O-ring and reinstalling it as it was when new ? Or buy your self a 55 gallon drum of JB weld and cover the entire engine ! I don't get it, what's wrong with putting stuff back they way it is supposed to be rather than look for some "alternative" method ? The O-ring that's in there is probably close to 30 figgen' years old and toasted hard as coal ! You will have to dig it out with a pick, clean up the hole where it sits install a new O-ring on the rusty dip stick tube that SHOULD be refurbished with POR-15 then secure the dipstick tube to the cross brace as it was originally and it will not be loose until another 30 years or so passes you by ! OR maybe the JB WELD is cheaper than the new dip stick O-ring > O-ring, oil dipstick tube to engine, N 900 322 03 - $2.80

Noticed my dipstick tube loose at the case, obvious potential vacuum leak. I n the past I've just cleaned the area as best I can and dabbed some JB Weld about the tube base. Any other suggestions?<<<<<<<
